Dear Coaches and National Team Competitors,
This is a very important and needs to be understood.

It is the responsibility of each instructor to ensure his/her students are aware of the following conditions relating to
National Champions and people intending on participating in the World/European Championships this year. Please
ensure you contact EACH of your qualifying fighters individually relating to same.

The following are FUNDAMENTAL requirements for National Champions and associated people intending on
travelling this year.

FIGHT OFFS
There are a number of outstanding fight offs in semi contact and light contact. It has been agreed by the National
Executive that these fight offs must take place on or before July 4th. July 4th is the date of the AKAI Open and will
provide an ideal opportunity for any remaining fight offs to be completed. The date of any fight off must be
communicated to the coach of that discipline so they are aware when these are taking place.

DEPOSIT
A Deposit of 250 Euros is required for each fighter/coach/parent/official/supporter participating in the
World/European Championships this year. This deposit must be paid on or before 4th July (AKAI Open). Failure to
pay said deposit will mean the place currently reserved for your fighter will AUTOMATICALLY be offered to the
fighter ranked in second place on the 5th July.

GEAR
When giving in deposit you must also stipulate what equipment (clothing) you require this year. As normal we use
the same gear for a number of years to keep the associated costs down for fighters. Therefore we will be using the
same designs as last year to be cost effective for everybody. If you have your clothing from last year you do not
need to repurchase same unless you want to. Please give the following Details WHEN paying your deposit.

1. Track Suit ( XXS – XS – S – M – L – XL – XXL )
2. Fighting Suit ( Junior - XXS – XS – S – M – L – XL – XXL )
3. T Shirt ( 9 – 11yrs / 12 – 14yrs / S / M / L / XL / XXL )

The charge for the clothing will be at COST price.

team and represent your country this year. There will also be a number of dates (3) for squad training which will be
forwarded to you within the next weeks.

No fighter will be allowed to participate in a World or European Championships unless he/she has met the above

IMAC/AKAI National Coaching Development Program:

One of the most important initiatives set in train by the Irish Martial Arts Commission has been the Nationa
l Coaching Development Program (NCDP). All the IMAC individual system governing bodies are involved in th
e Coach Development Program. The idea of the Program is to provide an education structure for coaches and t
o progressively work on coaching systems within IMAC and is co hosted with the NCTC.

IMAC Coaching Committee

The Irish Martial Arts Commission has a coaching committee, This committee is empowered to develop th
e coaches, instructors, assistant instructors within IMAC and develop an agreed coaching development and
certification program with the Irish Sports Council and the National Coaching and Training Centre, in Limerick
.

Chairman Roy Baker
Aikido / Sambo Representative Brendan Dowling
Karate Representative Joe Smith
TKD Representative
Tai Chi Representative Neil Drew
Kung Fu Representative Bobby O Neill
Kickboxing Representative Michael Mc Dermott

n Kingston, George Martin.
National Coaching Development Program
The National Coaching & Training Centre (N.C.T.C.) was established in May 1991 as a result of two government
reports indicating the need to have a central agency to assist in the development of coaching and coach education
. It is based in the University of Limerick.
The National Coaching Development Program was launched by An Taoiseach, Mr Albert Reynolds T.D., at the
Westbury Hotel, Dublin on September 28, 1993. The Program, which has secured the involvement of 71 Nationa
l Governing Bodies in sport, will establish a coaching ladder at four different levels
.
Improved Standards
Speaking at the launch Mr. Reynolds said “The introduction of this Program means that for the first time, all of
the sporting organisations in the country will be part of a unified development plan which is aimed at improvin
g standards in coaching and in performance. Such an initiative is particularly appropriate in Ireland where we are
keenly interested in sport both as participants and supporters. ”
Pat Duffy, then Director of the N.C.T.C., outlined the major elements of the Program He pointed to the central role
which the education of coaches would play over the course of the first cycle of the Program between 1993 and 1998
. Each Governing Body in sport will be assisted by the National Coaching and Training Centre so that a sport specific
education Program can be delivered.
Different Roles
In referring to future developments in coaching, Mr. Reynolds alluded to the important role played by volunteer
s and he highlighted the importance of a smooth synergy between voluntary and full time sectors:
“The massive volunteer input into sport in this country bears testimony to the passionate love which we have fo
r sport. There is now a great opportunity to maximise our reservoir of talent, both in coaching and performance, in
the context of the National Coaching Development Program The Program will, I believe, investigate ways in which
the volunteer input to sport can be acknowledged and complemented with the inputs of suitably trained coaching
and technical personnel operating in semi-professional and professional roles.”
Four Tier Coaching Ladder
The NCDP is centred around a four tier coaching ladder which presents coaches with the opportunity to advance thei
r coaching ability and education from introductory to international level (see Fig. 1). The four levels have been
carefully considered, taking into account national requirements and projected developments in Europe .
Level 1 = Assistant Coach/Instructor ( Completed, Q review, course approved)
Level 2 = Coach/Instructor ( Course Subject headers approved, Subject matter in development)
Level 3 = National Coach/Instructor ( Jan 2008)
Level 4 = International Coach/Instructor ( Jan 2010 )
Recognition for coaches
For the first time, the NCDP will provide the Martial Artists in Ireland with an accreditation mechanism which will
ensure that standards are uniform across all systems. National certification will be available to all coaches at all
four levels when developed.
Partnership
The key to the Program lies in the concept of partnership and is a result of all the IMAC Advisory boards through
the coaching committee are working closely with the NCTC. For More Information Contact:
